April 6, 2000 Meeting Minutes

Present:: Jane Kent, Tim Athan, Norm Roller, Ken Clark & Rebecca Kanner (notetaker)

1. WBWC Formalization
a. Non-Profit Status - Bob is looking into this; he spoke with Lucinda Means of LMB and we'll hear more at the next meeting that Bob attends. Ken reported that the NEW Center is holding a session on how to do this; he may possibly attend.
b. Constitution and By-Laws - Jane is looking into this and will report on it at a future meeting
c. Membership application/endorsement form - Bob is working on this;there was discussion on the proposed membership rate. Should there be a family rate? What about a higher rate for organizations and businesses? An honorary membership for those without cars was suggested.
d. Letterhead/stationary - Jane and her sister worked on some drafts that Jane shared with us. She wanted to know what kind of direction the committee wants - serious or fun? Jane and her sister will work on this over Easter.

2. Communications
a. Web page/e-mail - Thanks to Ken, we now have a web site and an e-mail list. The website address is: www.wbwc.org and the email list is: wbwc@topica.com. Good work Ken!
b. Publicity/Advocacy writing
i. Ann Ar bor News - Rebecca spoke with the new metro editor at the Ann Arbor News. He was quite new (only been working 6 days) and wasn't very receptive to the idea of a monthly bike column even though he is a biker (he wondered if there was enough news to fill a column each month - Rebecca assured him that transportation was a hot issue in the area.) He said he'd speak with the publisher.
ii. Ecology Center newsletter - Ken agreed to write and article for the newsletter on biking issues (also reminding us to remember pedestrians.)

3. Goal Actions
a. Upcoming events - Bob will do a table at the Earth Day Festival on April 16 at Leslie Science Center and he'll also coordinate info table at other bike month activities
b. N. Main St. - The PROS plan says that this is a popular route and something needs to do done; there is confusion on what is wanted.
c. NE Mountain Bike Route - this project connecting parks is being put together piecemeal; Norm is working on this.

4. Misc.
a. League of Michigan Bicyclists/League of American Bicyclists affiliation - Bob is sending in applications to these two organizations. [Note: we have received a welcome letter from LMB, with 100 poster calendars (which lists 85 Michigan cycling events), a few brochures onnnn the Shorelines bicycle tours and a decal.]
b. Approval of 3/14 minutes - There were some questions about the membership dues rates, see above. Ken moved and Jane seconded, the minutes were approved by all

5. Next meeting - our default time is Thursday, May 25, though there is talk about a meeting May 4. Stay tuned! All meetings are at 7 pm at the Ecology Center, 117 N. Division St. unless notified otherwise.
