Washtenaw
Biking & Walking Coalition 2004 Candidate Surveys
WBWC sent the following questions to candidates to various local (Washtenaw
County) and state candidates for office:
- Do you agree that bicycling and walking should be promoted as part of all
local and regional transportation policies? If you agree, please name three
initiatives that you would promote or support to promote such policies.
- Do you support the establishment of a paid full-time non-motorized transportation
coordinator at the county level?
- Under what circumstances do you support traffic calming measures?
- Do you support training programs for police officers and sheriff’s deputies
to ensure they are aware of the laws as they pertain to bicyclists and pedestrians?
- Will you ensure that pedestrian travel is safe throughout the winter by
enforcing sidewalk snow and ice clearing ordinances?
- Would you support “routine accommodation“ or “complete streets” measures
that would require that all new or reconstructed roads accommodate bicyclists
and pedestrian unless an exception is granted? If so, how would you work to
accomplish this?
- Do you believe that such facilities should be funded with regular transportation
funds or dedicated non-motorized transportation funds?
- Do you support the creation of a non-motorized trail across Washtenaw County?
If so, what would you do to encourage this to happen?
