Meeting Minutes – January 3^rd, 2002

In Attendance: Kris Talley, Tim Athan, Bruce Fields, Bob Goodsell, Jim Neider, Bob Klinger, Ken Clark.

Kris, the vice-chair, called the meeting to order at 7:14pm. December 6^th minutes were approved unanimously.

Treasurer was not available for a report.

Agenda Item 4a. "Membership Outreach" - Ken contacted Running Fit through his wife, an avid runner. Running Fit’s owner seemed to be having a bad day and was not interested at the time. Ken or Jodi will try again later.

Agenda Item 4b. "Education/Membership/Communications Committees"- Bob Krzewinski will contact papers about meeting announcements.

Agenda Item 5a. "Ann Arbor News bicycling column"- No update. The members agreed that it may be valuable to write a number of sample columns to give the News staff some idea of what the column would be about and assure them that we could provide timely material.

Agenda Item 5b. "Ann Arbor Police Department Cyclist Enforcement Actions" - Ken announced that the formal hearing date for his ticket has been set as February 6^th at 9:30 am in the 15^th District Court in Ann Arbor.

Agenda Item 5c. "WBWC 2002 Bicycling/Walking Project Priorities" - The attendees agreed to produce a top three or five item list to bring to the next meeting.

Agenda Item 5d. "Spring Education Efforts Planning (Earth Day/Bike-To-Work Week)" - There was discussion about staffing booths at the Ann Arbor Earth Day celebration, the Art Fairs, and assisting with Bike to Work Week. Tim agreed to provide a mock-up of a flyer for the WBWC that could be passed out at events. Ken agreed to check for educational videos at the LMB office to assist the County Sheriff in bike safety efforts.

Agenda Item 5e. "Other"

• Update on Bicycle Coordinator position. The Ann Arbor Bicycle Coordinator position is in jeopardy. It may be advisable to lobby for the position to be changed to a Non-Motorized Coordinator, including both pedestrian and bicycle concerns to keep some staffing. The Bicycle Coordinator position wasn’t vacated due to a retirement, but it is being considered for elimination since it’s vacant and the City is changing staffing in most departments. There is no word on the Bike Program or the budget for the bike program.
• Updates on Bicycle Coordinating Committee activities, including Share the Road Signs and possible upcoming City Council initiatives on walking and biking.
• Discussion of website hosting fees. We receive a 10% discount for pre-paying for a year. Bruce made a motion to pre-pay for the website for a year, Bob. seconded, unanimously approved. Ken will contact Scott with details.
