WBWC Meeting Minutes – January 2, 2003
1. Call to order - The meeting was called to order at 7:15pm. It should be noted
that Washtenaw County was under a winter travel advisory due to a snowstorm
and this limited meeting attendance. Those attending were Tim Athan, Bob Goodsell,
Rebecca Kanner, Robert Klingler, Bob Krzewinski and Keith McDade.
5(e). Argo Pond - Due to transportation connections, Bob Goodsell gave a report on his efforts to seek a non-motorized path from Argo dam south to Depot Street. Bob received a unanimous consensus of support for his efforts from the WBWC Board members present and will continue research work for the project, reporting back at the next meeting.
2. Approval of previous meeting minutes - Approved by consensus.
3. Treasurers report - In a written report, Scott Koll reported $329.94 in the WBWC treasury as of 12/6/02.
4. General Business
a. Membership renewals/outreach - Bob Krzewinski reported that membership renewals
were filtering in to the WBWC mailing address and a second membership renewal
request would be mailed out on 1/15. Individual Board members will also be contacting
area bike/outdoor shops for membership. The Board also requested that membership
lists be sent to them on a regular basis.
b. 2003 budget - Bob Krzewinski will work with Scott Koll on this and report
back at the next meeting.
5. Actions
a. WBWC 2003 priorities - Discussion centered on limiting the number of projects
to the number of people that were willing to head up an effort on a particular
project, as well as the number of people willing to help out. To that extent
in 2003, major priorities were (with person heading up the project in parentheses):
Bike To Work Week (Rebecca Kanner), Argo Pond/Ann Arbor Huron River paths (Bob
Goodsell), Sidewalks (Bob Krzewinski), Huron River Drive Lane Closure For Biking
(Tim Athan) and Publicity (Robert Klingler). Another potential project, in need
of volunteers, was countywide road shoulder paving.
b. Non-Motorized Coordinators - The status of the Ann Arbor Alternative Transportation
Coordinator was discussed and Bob Krzewinski was still trying to contact the
University of Michigan Transportation Office to possibly set up a Coordinator
position there.
c. Education/Outreach - Rebecca Kanner will be holding two internal Bike To
Work Week meetings in January, working with the Ann Arbor GetDowntown! office.
2003 events were discussed where the WBWC will be having displays. So far these
include Washtenaw Community College Earth Day (4/17), Pittsfield Township Bike
and Hike event (4/26), EcoRide (June). Tentative events (pending dates and locations)
for participation include Ann Arbor Green Fair, Huron River Day, and Ann Arbor
Earth Day.
d. Snow removal initiatives - A link is up on the WBWC web page giving information
about sidewalk snow removal for almost all locations in Washtenaw County. This
link will be updated as new information is obtained. A press release will be
sent out also informing the public of the information link.
e. Argo Pond (see beginning of minutes)
f. Active Michigan Initiative - The WBWC Board gave its endorsement of this
initiative (being supported by the League of Michigan Bicyclist, Rails To Trails
Conservancy), meant to increase bicycling, walking and other non-motorized activities
in Michigan. The Initiative endorsement form had previously been e-mailed to
WBWC Board members/officers.
g. City of Ypsilanti Recreation Master Plan - Bob Krzewinski attended a recent
working session on the Master Plan, bringing forth a number of non-motorized
projects (bike lanes, non-motorized paths) for consideration in a new Plan,
which should be available in the Spring of 2003.
6. Adjournment - The meeting was adjourned at 8:16pm. The next meeting will be Thursday, February 6th.
