3. Treasurers report
Treasurer is absent, but reported to Bob Kr. that we have $514.94, up
from $329 at the beginning of December.
4. WBWC General Business
a. Membership outreach/renewals
About half of the people in the database have renewed. Board members
are visiting bike shops. Nothing to report.
b. 2003 budget
We're spending about $150/yr in postage. Organizational memberships:
$90/yr. $10 state renewal for non-profit status. $200 discretionary
fund. $15/yr for domain, $7/month for hosting. That's about $575 a year,
and we're close to that now, good.
5. Actions
a. WBWC 2003 bicycling/walking project priorities
volunteers decided on last time:
B2WW: Rebecca
sidewalks: Bob Kr.
Huron River Drive: Tim
County-wide shoulder paving: volunteer needed
Ken will write up something for the newsletter about what commitments
the county isn't meeting. Bob Kr. will remind Ken to do this.
Also, someone could check by next meeting which roads will be repaved in the
next couple years. Volunteer needed here. Bob Kr. will try to
scare up volunteers for this.
Kris will contact new director of road commission. Will at least try
to collect some of this info. on planned future projects.
Ken suggests following project: someone should take "the road is for all"
video to sheriffs and showing it to them.
It's 11.5 minutes. Get on public access TV? Leigh will do this and will
coordinate talk to Ken and Bud.
b. Non-Motorized Coordinators - Ann Arbor and University of Michigan
Ken reports that we have an "alternative transportation coordinator",
Don
Todd, in the engineering department, who is full-time on other stuff already.
Hrm. No-one knows the details at this point.
UM: Bob Kr.'s been talking to Pat Cunningham; will set up meeting with
him in the next couple weeks and let us know.
c. Education/Outreach
1. Bike To Work Week 2003
Now "Get Out and Bike Week!": there's a meeting Thursday, February
20th
7:00pm at the Chamber Community Room 425 S. Main Street, Suite 103. Bob
Kr. will send an email reminder.
Christa talked to guy who coordinates b2ww for Oakland. He advises:
1. Build to one main focal event. (E.g., they have a pancake
breakfast.)
2. Partnering programs (experienced commuter with inexperienced one).
3. Get politicians to show up. It's easy publicity for them.
Kris is working with hospital on their b2ww program.
Bob Kr.'s brief report on tentative plans so far:
Sat May 10: lit table at Ann A & Yspi farmer's market
Sun: aabts/velo club rides
Mon: Sgt. Tremain: brown bag lunch on biking issues
Mon eve: aabts city tour ending at leopold brothers: bicycling films
Tues: local schools: bike ed efforts in local schools
Wed: bicycle forum: use shelter at park? Have it indoors?
Thurs: mountain kids: mich. mountain bike ass'n doing a city ride?
Bike shop involvement? Someone's contacting them.
Ask for "sponsors"?
Note bike to work week happens after the UM winter term ends, so most of the
UM students are gone. Have a "bike to class week" in the fall?
2. Earth Day (Leslie Science Center & Washtenaw Community College)
This year it'll be held at the farmer's market? Nobody knows the details.
3. Street Smarts distribution
AABTS is getting us 1000 copies for us to distribute: bike shops,
booths, ?
Another event: Green Fair. Bob Kr. suggests that we could advertise
free supervised bike parking?
At events, could we have some sort of freebee gimick for joining the
wbwc. E.g., give away water bottles.
Work out coupon deals with pizza house, for example? Bob Kl. might work on
this. Give up on the local bike stores and ask big chains/online stores?
d. Argo Pond
Bob G. not here to report.
e. Other
There might be 4 undergrads doing some project that'll be talking with
us about outreach projects?
Ken mentioned that we're working on scheduling road a I class with Rob
Schneider. There's also a separate effort underway within the AABTS.
6. Adjournment - Next meeting: Thursday, March 6, 2003
adjourned 8:20
