Board Meeting Minutes – March 7, 2002
In attendance: Bruce Fields, Bob Goodsell, Bob Klingler, Andy McGowen,
Kris
Talley,Tim Athan, Rebecca Kanner
The prior minutes were approved. Tim moved, Rebecca seconded.
The treasurer reported that we had $364.50.
Kris reported on costs for a banner for bike to work week. For two foot
width banners:
$15/ft one color, $22 two colors, perhaps $88 for a banner (2' x 4' two
colors). Rebecca will look into other, non-vinyl options.
4. WBWC General Business
a. Membership outreach
· Small membership brochure - Tim showed everyone a draft trifold brochure.
Somecomments were that the brochure should be vertically oriented, but the
design is interesting. The initial design includes a scale with a stack of cars
on
one side and acyclist and pedestrian on the other with the byline "Let's
Improve the
Transportation Balance in Washtenaw County". Tim will redraft and present
at the next
meeting.
5. Actions
a. WBWC 2002 bicycling/walking project priorities
Possible items - Bob K. suggested two: Work to establish non-motorized
coordinators for Ann Arbor, U of M, the County, etc; and Educational efforts.
The attendees voted on the following possible priorities with the following
results:
Non-motorized Coordinators - 7
Events/outreach - 2
Council Action - 2
Sidewalk inventory - 0
crisis team - 2
educational efforts - 2
Northeast Area Transportation Plan - 0
County Shared use path - 2
b. Downtown Development Administration
The AABCC was not able to act on this. This is postponed for the Bike
Committee to acton. [Note: The AABCC voted at the March meeting to schedule
a meeting with
the DDA for late March or April. More information when the meeting has been
scheduled.]
c. Education/Outreach
· Earth Day - $10 for a table, we need to have a sign and brochures by
then.
We also need people to staff a booth on Sunday. Kris signed up for 3-5pm. Bruce
signed up for 1-3pm. Bob Goodsell also signed up for 1-3pm.
· Bike To Work Week (May13-17), Bike To Work Day (May 17 - Friday) A
small
amount of discussion. [Note: Due to lack of Bicycle Coordinator the City of
Ann Arbor will not be involved in Bike to Work Week this year.]
· School bicycle education - Get information back from Bob K. about the
level of commitment.
d. Ann Arbor Bicycle Coordinator position. This was part of our voted-on
highest priority for the year.
- Post card campaign
- Email campaign (Bob Goodsell will help.)
- Budget meeting / Council meetings / caucus meetings (Sundays 4:30pm before
Council)
- Petition
- Meetings with Council members by phone, individually, small groups (Scott
will
discuss this with 5th Ward council members March 11th, 2pm.)
- Flyer
- Letters to the Editor
- Delegate to other people
- Calendar on the Website
- Other Website material
- Email meeting notices
- Keep things positive and short
- Full-time, permanent, non-motorized transportation coordinator is the
goal.
e. Other
- As part of the discussion of 5a., we discussed WBWC's objectives for Andy
McGowen,a new visitor.
- Bob G. gave us an update on the Ann Arbor News column. The reporter
pointed out that while they are interested in events, at this time they aren't
interested in
- Bob K. mentioned Chamber of Commerce meeting on issues related to economic
growth.
- Bob K. mentioned Ypsilanti path.
- Bob K. mentioned we should pass out letterhead.
- The Ecology Center's Ecoride is June 9th.
Kris adjourned the meeting at 8:45.
