b. WBWC reference library location
Background: The Ecology Center has a library on the 1st floor, and the WBWC
has given a number of books, videos, and periodicals to be included in the library.
Tracey Easthope is in charge of it. Sounds like they're closing it down. Tim
will talk to Tracy about what's happened to our stuff.
Any suggestions for a new location?
Can we ask the ann arbor district library?
Tim will also try to talk Tracy into keeping our stuff here.
5. Actions
a. WBWC 2003 bicycling/walking project priorities
1. Non-Motorized Coordinators - Ann Arbor and University of Michigan
(Krzewinski)
Met with Don Todd; see newsletter
University: Bob Kr. will set up a meeting with Pat Cunningham
and let us know.
2. Argo Pond (Goodsell)
Bob Kr. gave a brief update
3. Road Shoulder Paving (Talley)
Bob Kr. gave a brief update
4. Get Out And Bike! Week/Bike To Work Day (Kanner)
A trifold pamphlet has been made, and this has been distributed
and included e.g. in Michigan Sports & Fitness Magazine. The
city is paying for the pamphlet.
Kris is working on web site info.
Come to at least one event, e.g. the Friday morning ride.
Bob Kr. will call Lucinda Means (of LMB) about speaking at the
forum, or perhaps M.C.ing.
We need insurance for the banners. Ken's working on this. Maybe
the city will pay for this.
Materials: Rebecca will get Bob Kr. a couple hundred bike maps.
Tim will order another box of membership pamphlets.
5. Huron River Drive (Nieters)
Jim Nieters is still building a coalition to do this.
b. Education/Outreach
1. Earth Day (Leslie Science Center & Washtenaw Community College)
We've got a request for a table in at WCC. Bob Kr. and Ana have
part of it covered.
Farmer's market: we'll have an info. table: Ana and Jeff will do
this. We'll be provided with a table and chairs. Rebecca will
get our materials from Bob Kr., Rebecca may take it to the
farmer's mkt storage area for Ana and Jeff to pick up? They'll
communicate about this later.
2. Street Smarts distribution
See above.
3. Ann Arbor Green Fair
June 13: main street closed off. Environmental groups, alternative
transportation-related businesses, etc.
Bob Kr. talking about setting up supervised bike parking where you'd
check in your bike, get a ticket, pick it up again later in
exchange for your ticket. If we do this make sure it gets
promoted.
4. Eco Ride
June 8, Sunday, Steiner school now instead of Forsyth, otherwise
similar.
What would we like to do?
We'll have a WBWC table again.
Will add an ecoride link on our website. (I'll do that:
ecocenter.org)
Suggestions for Stephanie:
Contact Paul Tinkerhess (?): he always brings a lot of stuff
which people are amused by.
Bring AATA for bus rack, but try to get them *not* to bring a
whole bus; last time it took up lots of space and sat idling the
whole time.
Do a press release intended to be forwarded to the various
bike-related email lists
c. US 23/Washtenaw non motorized planning (Nieters)
6 schemes were presented for this intersection, all variations on:
Under expressway both sides? Right-angle crossing to intersections?
flashing lights to alert cars to people
Put stoplights at the freeway entrances/exits? Very unlikely.
Jim points bikes in practice *aren't* going to stop that many times
in that short a space, and many cyclists will stick to the road
regardless.
No discussion of bike lanes or wide curb lanes.
Jim proposed: walking path on one side with right-angle crossings OR
put a bridge with spiral ramps or something farther north.
d. Other
1. Bandemer Park project endorsement
Bob Kr. passed around draft letter; Ken had some comments; they'll
work on a revision.
2. Christa proposes working on a bike to work week-like event
when the students come back in Septemember.
3. Also from Christa: bike racks on main, state, in front of post
office.
6. Adjournment - Next meeting: Thursday, May 1, 2003.
Quit around 8:30pm.
