WBWC Meeting Minutes – May 2, 2002

Bob Krzewinski (Bob below, presiding), Kris Talley,
Rebecca Kanner, Scott Koll, Clark Charnetski, Ken
Clark (taking minutes), Bob Klingler (Bob K. below),
Bruce Fields, Jim Neiter were in attendance. Bob
Krzewinski called the meeting to order at 7pm.

We discussed flyers and possible changes to the flyer,
particularly ways to send checks with membership
application. We suggested a number of places to
distribute flyers and concluded that we should make
500 copies for the next run.

Bob noted that producing a monthly newsletter was
becoming quite a chore. We unanimously agreed that it
would be appropriate to switch to bi-monthly
newsletters.

Actions
- Project Priorities
1. Bicycle coordinator for University. Bob K.
searched a bit and found some information on
University of Michigan. Ken mentioned a publication
from U of Co on Campus transportation that covers the
topic well. Bob asked about getting campus groups to
work on this. Rebecca will check into U of M
contacts. Ken will check the U Co document for Bob K.

2. DDA Meeting - Susan is interested in a meeting.
Ken is working on arranging a date for this meeting.
Rebecca had a copy of the DDA Draft reathorization
plan. Ken offered to review. Scott mentioned that
the AA Planning Commission will be considering Master
Plan updates at a May 7th meeting. Bob will write a
letter to the Planning Commission in support of
updating the Bike plan and including bike/ped in
plans. Ken will draft a letter to SEMCOG in support
of the proposed TIP amendment to update the bicycle
master plan as a non-motorized plan.

3. Education - The City of AA will not be doing
anything for bike to work week, but Rebecca noted that
Brandt Coultas, the getDowntown coordinator, will be
working on the leadership ride. Bob asked if someone
could help with the farmer's market booth on the 11th.
Someone recommended posting the request on the email
list. Bob K. noted that this job is actually a lot of
fun Bruce offered to help from 9-11am.

There was some discussion about writing letters to the
editor of the AANews reminding people of Bike to Work
Week. Rebecca will check on getting a banner.

Scott will bring up the idea of a history piece on
bicycle use in the Observer with Grace Shackman.

We discussed figuring out how to have more LCIs and
Ken talked about the LMB's efforts.

Rebecca noted that we could have a table at the
Eco-ride on June 9th. The Eco-ride coordinator asked
us to link our website to the Ecology Center website
for the eco-ride.

Ann Arbor will be holding a green-fair on June 28th on
Main street.

Huron River Day - July 14th

d. Bike Coordinator Position, Bob K and Ken updated
the group on what they have heard about the position.
They have been told that a position in Public Services
is being considered, but no one knows what the
responsibilities of that position would be. It may
have so many responsibilities that non-motorized
transportation gets lost.

Ken updated everyone on his ticket situation. A
formal hearing is scheduled for May 28th at the County
Courthouse. Ken also noted that he was followed part
of the way to work on April 30th by a police SUV and
the officer that had ticketed him. The SUV in
particular held up a great deal of traffic on Plymouth
Road in order to travel alongside and behind Ken (at
about 10mph) for about 2 minutes.

Bob Krzewinski adjourned the meeting at 8:50.
