WBWC Meeting Minutes: May 1, 2003
Ecology Center, 117 N. Division, Ann Arbor
1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm. Attending were Bob
Goodsell, Rebecca Kanner, Kris Talley, Jim Nieter, Bob Krzewinski, Scott
Koll, Ken Clark, Tim, Athan, Robert Klingler. Special guest of Amy Kuras of
the City of Ann Arbor.
2. Approval of previous meeting minutes: April minutes were accepted.
3. Treasurers report: $1043.68 in the WBWC treasury. Scott Koll also reported
that the federal WBWC identification number had been located and that no
tax filing is needed with the IRS if our treasury remains under $5000.
4. WBWC General Business
Membership report/outreach: Additional WBWC brochures will be printed up in
time for Get Out And Bike Week.
WBWC reference library location: The Ecology Center is willing to grant
the WBWC space for storing material but just needs to know how much
space is needed.
Other: Stephanie from the Ecology Center gave a report on the upcoming
Eco-Ride. The WBWC will try and have an information table at the event.
5. Actions
WBWC 2003 bicycling/walking project priorities
1. Non-Motorized Coordinators: Ann Arbor and University of Michigan A
meeting will be set up in May with Pat Cuningham of the University
of Michigan Transportation office with a notice of the meeting time
going out on e-mail. A short report was given on the activities of
the new Ann Arbor Alternative Transportation Coordinator, as well
as Ann Arbor Downtown Development Administration (DDA)
non-motorized activities. Rebecca Kanner asked for ideas on
proposals that the DDA could fund.
2. Argo Pond: Bob Goodsell gave a brief update on his Argo Pond south
pathway proposal. Amy Kuras gave a talk on plans for a
non-motorized path through Bandemer Park.
3. Road Shoulder Paving: Kris Talley working on this project.
4. Get Out And Bike! Week/Bike To Work Day: Rebecca Kanner gave an
update on this activity.
5. Huron River Drive: Jim Nieters gave an update on this project to
have one lane of the road closed on a limited basis. He also noted
a new bike shop will be opening in Dexter and may be interested in
the project. Education/Outreach
6. Earth Day reports: Reports given from the Washtenaw Community
College and Ann Arbor farmers market WBWC Earth Day displays.
7. Farmers Market/Get Out And Bike Week staffing: Volunteers were lined
up for WBWC displays at the Ann Arbor farmers market on 5/10 and
5/17. Kris Talley and Ken Clark will co-host the Wednesday night
bicycle forum at the Ann Arbor downtown library.
8. Street Smarts distribution: Still being distributed at local bike
shops on a quarterly basis.
9. Ann Arbor Green Fair: WBWC information table/bike parking coral
discussed. Tim Athan will continue to work on the project.
Other: The WBWC Board commended efforts by Ana Lacomb and Scott Koll to
form a walking group in the County.
6. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:28pm. The next meeting will be
Thursday, June 5, 2003.
