WBWC Meeting Minutes – August 1, 2002
Treasurer report - $243.80+20
5a. Discussion about the DDA Meeting in July. Bicycling Street Smarts
was a topic of discussion. We may apply for a State Energy grant to get
funding to distribute copies. Tim Athan has information on the state grants.
b. Our table at eco-ride went well. The Ann Arbor Green Fair went
particularly well, with WBWC winning the raffle! (The reward was donated
to SOS.)
BTWW - We need to look for grants. Ken will check with Brandt to see if
the Chicagoland Bike Federation has received grants in the past. We need
all ideas for possible grants!
AABTS Safety meeting - August 15th somewhere in Ann arbor. Prompted by
several crashes where a cyclist was hit and clearly wasn't at fault. The
police are not being at all responsive on these topics. Bob has a number
of topics to bring up at this meeting. Bob Kr will send an email with
more information on date and location.
c. Non-motorized coordinators - No real update on the Ann Arbor City
Alternative Transportation coordinator at this point. No one is
available at UM student groups to contact right now. Bob Kl is still
looking for information. Ken has a document that a first ward council
candidate is reading at the moment.
d. Ann Arbor police enforcement. Ken has found out that there is no
deadline for the judge to rule in his case. Therefore, we shouldn't wait
to push for better conditions, and should create a list of changes we
would like to see. Ken will check with LMB to see if there are ideas at
the state/national level for police education/ordinance changes.
e. 2002 elections - We discussed proposal 2 on the primary ballot
f. Other - AABCC meeting
- Rob Redmond from Webster talked about paving shoulders throughout the
County. He's an aquantance with many of the road commission and some
road commission staffers.
- Ken mentioned safe routes to school.
Next meeting 4th of September.
Adjourned at 8:39pm.
