September 4th, 2003

7pm, Ecology Center, 117 N. Division, Ann Arbor, MI

Minutes

1. Call to order – The meeting was called to order at 7:08pm. Board members/officers attending were Christa McDermott, Tim Athan, Scott Koll, Rebecca Kanner and Bob Krzewinski. WBWC Membership Chair Steve Moore was also in attendance.

2. Approval of previous meeting minutes – There was a question on who had taken the August meeting. Bob Krzewinski will check with meeting attendees to track the minutes down and post them on e-mail.

3. Treasurers report – Scott Koll reported approximately $600 in the WBWC checking account.

4. WBWC General Business
Membership report/outreach
i. Renewals – Membership renewal notices will be placed in the next two editions of the WBWC newsletter.
ii. WBWC brochure in AABTS newsletter – Rebecca Kanner will contact the AABTS about including a WBWC brochure in their newsletter.
iii. Two Wheel Tango recently joined the WBWC.
Other – Scott Koll agreed to assist with WBWC publicity.

5. Actions
WBWC 2003 bicycling/walking project priorities
1. Non-Motorized Projects – University of Michigan – Christa McDermott will research into having a one day bike event at the University in the fall.
2. Road Shoulder Paving (Talley) – No news to report
3. Huron River Drive (Nieters) – No news to report
Education/Outreach
4. Washtenaw County Health Department Seminar (9/9/03) – The Health Department invited the WBWC to a mid-week meeting/display, but due to the inability to staff such a display, we will send information to them as well as invite the Department to a future WBWC meeting.
Other
5. Walking Group Formation (Iacomb) – No news to report
6. Support For DDA non-motorized projects – A discussion was held on DDA improvements with it agreed that a letter would go to the DDA giving support to such non-motorized projects.
7. Support for Huron/Jackson bike lanes – A letter will be sent to the City of Ann Arbor supporting its efforts to improve and expand bike lanes.
8. October Walk To School Day – WBWC member John Hritz will work on efforts to promote this event, with probably more being done in 2004.
9. Congressional Funding: Non-Motorized Projects – It was learned that Congress had that afternoon voted overwhelmingly to restore funding for the Transportation Enhancements program in the 2004 Transportation Appropriations bill.
10. Public Service Announcements – Bob Krzewinski will send out bicycling safety PSAs to radio stations in the hope that they will be aired.
