Meeting Minutes - October 4, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:04pm at the Ecology Center, 117 N. Division in Ann Arbor. Board member/officer attendees were Tim Athan, Ken Clark, and Bob Krzewinski.

A motion was made by Ken Clark, seconded by Tim Athan, to approve the September meeting minutes, passing unanimously. While unable to attend the meeting, WBWC Treasurer Scott Koll had reported prior to the meeting that the treasury had $282.50.

On membership matters, it was noted that efforts are continuing to enroll commercial businesses into the WBWC. Also the subject of changing the "individual" membership to a "individual/family" status was discussed with no action taken. On WBWC Committee work, discussion centered around focusing action on only a few topics until more active members are enrolled. Suggestions included focusing on the State/Liberty bike lanes, non-motorized complaints, and sidewalk issues. On other formalization issues, Bob Krzewinski reminded members that Board elections would take place at the November meeting followed by Officer elections at the December meeting. Ken Clark volunteered to be the Chair of the Nominating Committee for the selection of Board members and Officers.

For WBWC communications, efforts will be made to have a "hit" counter established on the WBWC web page. Also, Jim Nieters is continuing efforts to have a regular bicycling column in the Ann Arbor News.

On WBWC actions, discussions were held on the Ann Arbor Capitol Improvements Plan, meeting with the Washtenaw County Sheriff, sidewalk projects and the non-motorized aspects of the Washtenaw County Road Commission. Ken Clark also alerted the members to a new study comparing Ann Arbor bicycle facilities those in Boulder, Colorado and Madison, Wisconsin. Bob Krzewinski also alerted the WBWC that a small group of homeowners in Ypsilanti had filed a petition opposing the building of a non-motorized pathway between Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor, to which the WBWC Board agreed to counter with a letter of support to the City of Ypsilanti.

With no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:14pm.
