Bob emailed us to tell us that a copy of membership renewal
form will be included in the Sept/Oct and Nov/Dec
newsletters.
2. WBWC brochure in AABTS newsletter
Rebecca will talk to Carol Hann about this. Tentatively
we'll use the usual WBWC membership brochure.
b. 2004
1. Nominating Committee formation:
From Bob: "WBWC elections - In November, dues paying members
of the WBWC elect approximately 1/2 of the number of
officers on the WBWC Board. The minimum number of Board
members is 3 with a maximum of 9. Board members who's terms
are expiring on 12/31/03 are Tim Athan, Ken Clark, Bruce
Fields, Rebecca Kanner and Kris Talley. Board members who
continue on until 12/31/04 are Bob Goodsell, Christa
McDermot and Jim Nieters. Leigh McCue's term would have also
expired on 12/31/04 but she submitted her resignation from
the WBWC Board in September. I stongly urge that we have
people nominated from the AABTS, MMBA, Velo Club and other
organizations."
Rebecca is the committee again.
2. Board Elections (November)
Rebecca will contact mtn bike people.
She'll also look for a tri club person.
Paul suggests boy and girl scouts as well.
Rebecca will contact girl scouts at least.
Paul will contact Leukemia society?
3. Officer Elections (December)
c. AABTS Lu Chaney Fund mailing
Lu Chaney Fund - Bob says: "Please discuss if we want to
support this (I strongly urge we do) and whether we want to
give our WBWC mailing list to the AABTS for a funding request
letter (I support this too).
We agreed to both.
d. November annual member meeting - Thursday evening, Nov. 6
Rebecca will call Scott to talk about setting up the annual membership
meeting.
Kris will ask Norm Cox if he will speak.
5. Actions
a. WBWC 2003 bicycling/walking project priorities
1. Non-Motorized Projects - University of Michigan
Had a conversation with Sue Gott:
Sue Gott has been planner at the university
of michigan for a year, and worked on local
planning issues previously.
Pat Cunningham has retired, Dave Miller is now interem
directory of parking and transportation.
Grounds department is responsible for condition of
racks and path surfaces; contact her or them
about any problems, for example with clearing
in the winter.
She recently made sure railings on new ped bridge
were up to spec for cyclists bridge-users.
Rebecca asked about bike coordinator. No plans for now.
She suggests setting up a meeting with us quarterly,
with a focused agenda. Kris agreed to get this started.
Ken will mail Sue Gott pictures of examples of covered parking.
Various people advocated considering covered parking as
a cheaper and denser alternative to lockers which would
nevertheless satisfy most people's needs.
Suggests talking to Alan Levy (sp?), communications
person in housing, about freshman orientation and
such. Note that they're interested in convincing
parents not having kids bring cars. So there might be
opportunities for bike-related mailings to parents week
before. Keep it short and to the point: they get
inundated with stuff....
2. Road Shoulder Paving (Talley)
Kris posted a road commission Q&A on website.
We need to organize letter-writing campaign to
congratulate road commission on any projects
recently that we liked.
3. Huron River Drive (Nieters)
Nothing to report.
Other
1. Walking Group Formation (Iacomb)
Nothing to report.
2. October Walk To School Day
Nothing to report.
3. Report on Washtenaw/23 interchange meeting:
The consultants agreed that the should be "share the road" signs
as well as the wide sidewalks. Unfortunately it doesn't look like
peds will get any help crossing the ramps.
7. Adjournment - Next meeting: Thursday, November 6th.
Adjourned 8:40ish.
