Meeting Minutes – November 2, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm. Meeting attendees were Tim Athan, Lu Chaney, Ken Clark, Rebecca Kanner and Bob Krzewinski. A motion was made by Ken Clark, seconded by Rebecca Kanner, to approve the minutes of the October WBWC meeting, passing unanimously. On the matter of WBWC formalization, Bob Krzewinski was still waiting to hear back from the State of Michigan on state non-profit status and he would contact the League of Michigan Bicyclists to gain assistance on this matter. For a WBWC constitution and by-laws, Bob Krzewinski would contact Jane Kent to see what progress she had made on the subject.

Tim Athan gave a report and sample of a WBWC membership form. Further revisions were suggested and Tim would report back at the next meeting. Tim would also work on a more formal WBWC stationary. Concerning Committees, discussion was held on the need to set up a checking account with Rebecca Kanner volunteering to investigate establishing an account at the Ann Arbor Commerce Bank.

For communications, ideas for the WBWC web page were explored such as including the membership application and a way for people to become involved with facility improvements (i.e. asking them to write a letter to an elected official). On the WBWC Topica mail list, Ken Clark would investigate if messages could be sent out in a daily journal format instead of individual messages. Rebecca Kanner would also continue to investigate a monthly bicycle column in the Ann Arbor News and Bob Krzewinski would explore similar column in the Ypsilanti Courier.

Moving on to goal actions, discussion was held on the recent article in the Ann Arbor News which described non-motorized path planning. On how the WBWC could become more involved in the process, it was suggested that the group investigate applying for a Michigan Transportation Enhancement Program grant to complete a missing portion of the non-motorized path between Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor. Bob Krzewinski would look into the grant process further.

For short-term projects, the WBWC would look into funding for additional "Share The Road" signs, with a suggestion being the posting on North Main Street in Ann Arbor. A request was also made that the Ann Arbor Bicycle Advisory Committee recommend the placement of stop signs for the bridge at Gallup Park where it crosses the non-motorized path. Finally, the WBWC voted to approve a resolution supporting the Washtenaw County natural areas preservation issue on the November 2000 ballot.

With no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:15pm

Respectfully submitted,

Bob Krzewinski
