Meeting Minutes – February 1, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Meeting attendees were Ken Clark, Rebecca Kanner, Bob Krzewinski and Kris Talley. On the matter of WBWC formalization, Bob Krzewinski reported he was continuing to work with James Partidge, legal advisor for the League of Michigan Bicyclists, on Michigan non-profit status for the WBWC as well as the Coalition’s by-laws. On the matter of the WBWC membership application, Tim Athan has revised the form and will forward a copy to Bob Krzewinski. Also, Ken Clark will contact Tim Athan about a formal WBWC letterhead.

On the matter of Committees, Bob Krzewinski indicated a real need for people to help out with communications/publicity as well as membership. Rebecca Kanner indicated that a staff person from the Ecology Center could help out with publicity matters and Bob Krzewinski would supply Rebecca with a media contact list and sample press releases. Concerning a bank account for the WBWC, Rebecca indicated that a non-profit group number from the State would be required before any new action could be taken on establishing an account.

Regarding communications, the status of the "www.wbwc.org" address was discussed with Ken Clark indicating that there was a $7 monthly fee for the location. On publicity, Bob Krzewinski indicated that a reporter for the Ann Arbor News was interested in a story on the WBWC and Bob would follow up. Bob also indicated that he would start working on a monthly e-mail newsletter for the WBWC.

On goal actions, education activities were discussed including Earth Day (April 22) at the Leslie Science Center, Ann Arbor Farmers Market displays (May 12 & 19) and Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society bike-to-work week rides. No new material was presented on the North Main Street and Cross-County pathways.

On "share the road" signs, Ken and Rebecca would bring up the subject at the Ann Arbor Bicycle Committee meeting. Bob Krzewinski reported that Ypsilanti will be having a ballot issue in April to improve the city streets. Bob will research the issue for possible endorsement by the WBWC as any improvement to city roads would be of benefit to cyclists. Bob also reported that the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Department is working on a county bike map and the WBWC is assisting in recommending roads suitable for bicycling on the proposed map.

Concerning a spring meeting for the WBWC, a date of Thursday, May 17th was selected with a theme of giving updates on city/county non-motorized plan updates. The meeting will tentatively be held at the main Ann Arbor library multi-purpose meeting room.

With no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:21pm.
