5-6-04 WBWC Meeting Draft Minutes



The meeting was called to order @ 7:10pm.

Attendees: Kris Talley, Steve Moore, Ken Clark, Bob Goodsell, Tim Athan,
Ana Iacob, Cindy, Jim, 



1. April minutes approved with the addition of two names.



2. Treasurer's report: No current update



3. Cindy and Jim from Ann Arbor attended the meeting.



4. General Business

 A. Membership Outreach - 

1. Kris reported that AABTS has approved the survey for distribution in
their next newsletter.

2. Kris suggested that Tim contact the owner of Wheels in Motion to join
WBWC.  Tim and Steve agreed to work between them to try to create a
decal for bike shop owners to put in their windows.

3. Ken found a good source for promotional bags, but hasn't gotten
prices yet.



B. Reports from other groups

1. BCC notes - City comments on "sidewalk bicycle route" changed to
"share the road" signs, etc.

2. LMB update - board meeting, discussion 

2. AABTS safety committee - conducting another Road I course,
enforcement training

3. AA nonmotorized transportation plan committee - No update from John.

4. UM North Campus Transportation Plan meeting - A very positive
response from Terry Ramsey, someone who works with Sue Gott at the
University.  A meeting will be set up soon.

5. EC transportation committee update - pedestrian recommendations are
held up pending Council being ready .

6. Huron/Fifth/Division Focus Group - Kris attended the most recent
meeting.  They are proposing bike lanes on Fifth and Division, more
sidewalk furniture, and other changes.



C. Kris attended a Thunderhead Alliance meeting in Chicago this past
month.  She was told by many people that we should look into paid staff
to be more effective.  Kris contacted someone at Thunderhead Alliance
who pointed out other places with similar populations where there are
paid staff.  Locally, the Ann Arbor Committee for Peace is a similar
sized organization and has an executive director.    Kris was told that
other organizations raise about a third of their funds through
contracts, a third through donations and membership and a third through
events.  

1.  Based on this discussion we agreed to revise our membership rate
structure to the following:

a. Student/Reduced - $10

b. Individual/Family - $25/$35

c. Club/Shop/Organization - $50

d. Sustaining - $50

e. Patron - $100

	2. We discussed reprinting the brochures.  

D. Newsletter/blog - no update.

E. WBWC Table/Banner - Washtenaw Bicycling and Walking Coalition logo on
a banner we could attach to a table.  Ken will check in to table sized
banner pricing.



5.  Actions

2. Road Shoulder Paving  - No update.

3. Huron River Drive - Update from Jim, but nothing to update at this
point.

4. B. Krzewinski said to send him comments on missing sidewalk sections.

5. Ana Iacob is looking for someone to take her place in Buhr Park next
Saturday for her walking group.

6. There was an article in the Ann Arbor Observer about walking school
bus at Mitchell and Lakeside schools.

B. Bike to Work Week

	1. The Chamber of Commerce is running a commuter challenge this year.

	2. Neile met with the getdowntown coordinator

	3. 

C. Upcoming Events

	1. Huron River Day - Ana will attend

	2. Green Fair - Tim will attend and Ana will help

D. Potential/unassigned

	1. Elections - time to consider elections
