4. Updates on Actions
A. WBWC 2005 biking /walking projects
1. UM has posted a non-motorized transportation coordinator position,
Kris brought a copy of the posting. Kris, Erica Briggs, and others
held a meeting with UM staff on February 11th. One interesting point
is that North University is being considered for a new configuration,
which would make the area better for transit and non-motorized
transportation. The university has added bike parking in the Palmer
parking structure and is looking at bike parking in other structures.
The university has also created a campus bike parking map. These
meetings are now planned to continue each quarter.
2. Jack Van Dyke is working on a bike-friendly city application for Ann
Arbor.
3. There is now a tentative calendar of events for Sustainable
Transportation Month - May. There are currently 18 events listed on
the calendar, which will be posted on the getDowntown website. We'll
put up a link to that site when it's available. The first week is "Try
Transit" week, the second is "Use Your Feet Week", the third is "Bike
to Work Week", and the fourth week is "Share a Ride Week". We are
committed to handle a seminar the night of our typical meeting.
B. Discussion/Decision needed
1. Crosswalk traffic stings - We talked about making this a discussion
point for our meeting. Paul will send an email to an officer on the
AAPD we know to ask for the best approach to contacting the police
about this. We agreed that this might be a good hook for the police to
get involved in pedestrian efforts for sustainable transportation
month. We considered the best locations for crosswalk enforcement
activities and came up with the crosswalks in front of Community High
School and in front of Northside Elementary school.
