WBWC Meeting 4/7/05
Meeting came to order at 7:20
Kris Talley conducted the meeting.
Paul Alman, Frank Schwende, Ken Clark, Ana Jacob, Brenda
Bentley-Goenka, Scott Tenbrink, and Rita Mitchell were present.
1. The March meeting minutes were approved with a few changes.
2. Treasurer reports balance of $824.74.
3. New member intros - Scott, but he isn't really new :-)
4. Updates on Actions
A. WBWC 2005 biking /walking projects
Sidewalk Project (Krzewinski) - Bob is still collecting locations
with problem or missing sidewalks.
AA Bike-friendly city application (Van Dyke) - No update. Scott
believes that all the paperwork has been sent in.
Curb Your Car Month 2005 (Briggs, Van Dyke, Talley)
Finalize Plans for special WBWC/(AABTS?) at the AA Public Library.
We have to be done by 8:30pm since the library closes at 9pm.
Some possible presenters: WATS on their County-wide
Nonmotorized Plan, attorneys Briggs and Colegrove, attorney
James Partridge, a quick discussion of the Ann Arbor
Nonmotorized Plan, Brenda might like to do a presentation on
walking in Ann Arbor.
Bicycling Magazine will be giving out the 50 free "Bike-Town" bikes
at the Bike to Work Day festivities.
Still need WBWC member support for Bicycling Ambassador program, bike
valet parking, etc. The Bicycling Ambassadors will go from
place to place giving out information, not approaching people
to encourage them to correct their behaviors. The Ambassador
program will launch the 2nd of May. The bike valet parking
will be at the Moonlight Delight (Midnight Madness) event
downtown from 6pm to midnight. Traffic sting (Alman) Paul
contacted the person he knows at the AAPD, who suggested
another officer to contact about this.
B. Delhi Bridge - no update.

5. WBWC General Business
A. Membership report/outreach
New brochures/cards (Athan)
Membership report (Schwende) - Last year we had 56 members, and 5
organizations. So far we've sent out 31 membership cards. Of
those, 13 were no-fee memberships carried over from last year.
We decided (without objection) that memberships made after
October will roll over to the next year.
Renew current bike shops and get new ones (Alman, Schwende) Frank
will send out the usual letters and Paul will follow up.
WBWC Topica mail list (Fields/Clark) - Ken will ask the Topica staff
again to put us in the public directory.
We need to find a good place to get various cheap things that have
our logo on them to hand out. We talked about reflective slap
bracelets, bags with our logo and other handouts.
Special material for CYC month?
B. Newsletter went on the website the first of the month. The next
deadline is April 15th. Bob is asking everyone for information
for the newsletter.
C. Reports from other groups
AA Bicycle Coordinating Committee - No update.
AA Environmental Commission Transportation Committee - No update.
UM Nonmotorized Transportation Committee (Talley) - The University
has hired a new transportation coordinator.
League of Michigan Bicyclists - No update.
AABTS Safety Committee - 16th of this month a training session on
bike handling. April 8th & 9th AABTS appreciation day at the
Aberdeen bicycle shop. April 16th, group riding , last weekend in
May before Memorial Day Chelsea bike rodeo.
AA Non-motorized Transportation Planning Committee meetings - The
consultant is working on cleaning up the plan for presentation to
the public.
Parks and Recreation Greenway meeting - no update.
Getdowntown program. The Getdowntown program is looking for a forum
to discussing the Greenway proposals.
Thunderhead Alliance (Talley)
Washtenaw County Nonmotorized Steering Committee (Van Dyke, Talley) -
met last month. Discussion was largely about how wide bike lanes
should be. The group also talked about different standards of
Friends of the AA Greenway (Mitchell) - The Womens Progressive Action
Committee will be holding a discussion of the Greenway proposals.
Monday April 11th 7pm at a church on Independence Blvd. Walk on
Mothers day around downtown and proposed greenway sites. There
was also a Council resolution on converting three City sites that
are on the proposed greenway as city parks that council rejected.
