WBWC Meeting Minutes - November 2, 2006 Meeting came to order at 7:10 Kris Talley conducted the meeting. Board members Kris Talley, Tim Athan, Ana Iacob, and Bob Krzewinski were present. 1. Approval of previous meeting minutes - Motion to accept by Iacob, second by Tally. Approved. 2. Treasures Report - Due to no new report from bank, no new report from October meeting. 3. New Member/Attendee Introductions - Lily Guzman, Pete Hines 4. Actions/News A. Ann Arbor Nonmotorized Plan - The Ann Arbor Planning Commission was meeting tonight (November 2nd) to review the plan. The WBWC had given additional written input requesting sidewalk bicycle route signs be removed. B. Education/Police Relations - Erica Briggs continuing to work on this project with the Ann Arbor Police, concentrating on police education of cyclist rights and enforcement action towards cyclists violating traffic laws. Funding sources are also needed for this work. C. Safe Routes To School - WBWC will take part in local meetings on this area. The Washtenaw County Public Health Department is also working on this area, exploring funding for education, sidewalks and traffic signals. D. ZipCar - It was reported in the Ann Arbor News that a ZipCar franchise will be established in Ann Arbor, which allows for short term (i.e. hourly) car rentals. 5. Upcoming Events A. Bike Winter - Winter bicycling education event will most probably be held in January. 6. WBWC General Business A. Board Elections - First it was reported that current serving Board members Paul Alman and Brenda Bentley-Goenka have chosen to resign. Nominations, and voting, was then done for new Board members to serve a two year term, ending in November 2008. Elected to the WBWC Board were Lily Guzman, Pete Hines, Frank Schwende, and Bob Krzewinski (who had just completed a two-year term on the Board). B. WBWC Newsletter - The deadline for the January/February 2007 WBWC News will be December 10, 2006. Items can be sent to Bob Krzewinski at wolverbob@cs.com. C. Winter WBWC Gathering - Kris Talley and Erica Briggs are continuing to work on a winter bicycle gathering (i.e. film showing, winter bicycling talk, etc.) at both an Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti location. D. WBWC Phone Number/Voice Mai. - Bob Krzewinski investigated a number of voice mail firms, with the AccessLine firm appearing to be the best service ($8.95/month, no contract, e-mail notification of voice mail, etc.). Bob will look into obtaining a number that is easy to remember and report back to the Board before starting service. 7. Reports From Other Groups/Events Washtenaw County Public Health - Lily Guzman reported on current WCPH activities, including a bicycle map for Ypsilanti and the Washtenaw County Steps Up program. Ypsilanti Health Coalition - The group is presently setting goals for 2007. University of Michigan Nonmotorized Transportation Committee - The group is supposed to be meeting quarterly, but has not met for an extended time. Alternative Transportation Committee (Ann Arbor) - The group is working with city planners. Future pedestrian/bicyclist counts are also planned at key intersections. GetDowntown Program - No report. Ann Arbor Environmental Commission Transportation Committee - No report. Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society Safety Committee - The Committee is looking for a new Chair. Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission Greenways Advisory Committee - The Committee did not meet in October with a mid-November meeting planned. Washtenaw County Nonmotorized Steering Committee - No meetings planned. Friends of the Ann Arbor Greenway - No report. 7. Adjournment - A motion was made by Athan, seconded by Hines, to adjourn. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30pm. The next meeting will be on Thursday, December 7th, 2006 at the Ann Arbor Ecology Center.
