Meeting Minutes – March 1, 2001
The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Board members attendees were Ken Clark, Rebecca Kanner, Bob Krzewinski and Kris Talley.
On the February 2001 meeting minutes, Bob Krzewinski noted that they should have included a notation that Tim Athan, Ken Clark, Rebecca Kanner and Kris Talley would serve as initial WBWC Board members until a formal election takes place in late 2001. With this correction to the February 2001 minutes noted, a motion was made by Rebecca Kanner, seconded by Kris Talley, to accept the minutes, passing unanimously.
Concerning WBWC formalization, WBWC board members present signed the Michigan Articles of Incorporation form, which after review by League of Michigan Bicyclists legal advisor James Partridge, would be forwarded to the State of Michigan. On the WBWC By-Laws, Bob Krzewinski reported he was still working with James Partridge on this matter.
Membership applications were passed out for distribution at local bike shops. Also, the matter of WBWC Committee positions was discussed. On the matter of a WBWC bank account, this matter was still pending upon the issuance of a federal tax identification number for the organization.
The WBWC web site was discussed, with suggestions of adding volunteer opportunities, an activist (i.e. "write a letter") page and including a "visit" counter. On other communications matters, discussions centered on the Ann Arbor News article on the WBWC, an Ann Arbor News monthly bike column and the May 1st Community Television taping. On communications with other groups, Bob Krzewinski reported that the WBWC was invited to the next Washtenaw County Greenways Advisory Committee meeting on April 20th. Bob Krzewinski also dropped off a number of materials for the WBWC library section at the Ecology Center (available to the public on a checkout basis).
On upcoming activities, the WBWC has a space reserved at the Leslie Science Center Ecology Day (4/22) festival. Other upcoming events include displays at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market (5/12 and 5/19), the Ecology Center Eco-Ride (6/3) and possibly at the Northville REI store (April).
On other action items, through the Ann Arbor Bicycle Committee, work was still being done on adding more "Share The Road" signs, especially on North Main Street. The WBWC also agreed to endorse the April 3rd street improvement vote in Ypsilanti as road improvements would directly affect bicyclists. For the new County/Ann Arbor bicycle map, Dieter Hohnke and Bob Krzewinski had recently met with Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Department staff on routing suggestions.
For the WBWC Spring Meeting, the room has been reserved at the Ann Arbor Library main branch for May 17th with a request in to the Ann Arbor Bicycle Touring Society to assist with the meeting space rental. Thought was also given to taping the Spring Meeting for airing on Community Television.
With no other business, the meeting adjourned at 8:38pm.
