Meeting Minutes - May 3, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm. Board members present were Ken
Clark, Rebecca Kanner, Bob Krzewinski. Guests included Lu Chaney, Allison
Stupka, Thad Weakley and Scott Cole.

Meeting Minutes - A motion was made to accept the April 2001 meeting minutes
by Rebecca Kanner, seconded by Bob Krzewinski, passing unanimously.

WBWC Formalization - Rebecca Kanner noted that the Internal Revenue Service
had forwarded a tax identification number and she would proceed in setting up
a WBWC checking account. By-laws were still being reviewed and revised by Bob
Krzewinski with the assistance of James Partidge (legal advisor for the
League of Michigan Bicyclists).

Membership - Board members reported that they were continuing to contact
local businesses concerning WBWC membership. Rebecca Kanner would work on
having the Ecology Center join the WBWC. Concerning the Sierra Club, Bob
Krzewinski had correspondence with the local Group Chair who indicated it was
not normal policy to join coalitions. For individual memberships, Tim Athan
created a supply of membership cards that will be sent to those joining the
WBWC. Rebecca Kanner would do the new member mailings with a "welcome" letter
to be supplied by Bob Krzewinski

Committees - Scott Koll indicated a willingness to serve as WBWC Treasurer.
Bob Krzewinski would forward to Scott a job description. Other committee
chair positions that would need to be filled would be Communications,
Education and Membership.

Communications - Rebecca Kanner had a lead at the Ann Arbor News for helping
to establish a monthly bicycle education column and would pursue the matter.
The Community Television bicycle show taped earlier in the evening of May 3rd
was expected to be aired the week of May 13th and Bob Krzewinski would
attempt to tape the presentation. On a Letter to the Editor of the Ann Arbor
News concerning Liberty/State bicycle improvements, Ken Clark would rework a
draft and forward it to Bob Krzewinski. Bob Krzewinski also gave a report on
the Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Department Greenways Advisory
Meeting he attended on April 20th.

Actions - May Bike Month activities were discussed including the WBWC Spring
Meeting on May 17th (Biking and Walking Into The 21st Century) as well as
educational displays at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market and the local Art Van
store. On long/short term projects, those assembled discussed what could be
done in the next three and six months. Short term items included meeting with
the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Urban Transportation Study (UATS) staff, meeting with
the new Washtenaw County Sheriff concerning bicycling concerns and sidewalk
snow removal problems. It was also suggested that an educational display be
set up at the upcoming June 3rd Ecology Center EcoRide. Additional
discussions took place over having a WBWC display at Huron River Day (July
8th) and local opposition to non-motorized pathways in Bridgewater Township.

With no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm.

Respectfully submitted: Bob Krzewinski
