Meeting Minutes - September 6, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:04pm at the Ecology Center, 117 N. Division in Ann Arbor. Board member/officer attendees were Kris Talley, Ken Clark, Scott Koll and Bob Krzewinski.

A motion was made by Ken Clark, seconded by Kris Talley, to approve the August meeting minutes, passing unanimously. Scott Koll reported the treasury had $282.50. Next Bob Krzewinski presented final draft copy of the WBWC proposed by-laws. Discussion on the proposed by-laws included a request that the while there was a section on resignation of Board members, there was not a similar section for the resignation of officers. With an understanding that a section would be added to the by-laws dealing with the resignation of officers, a motion was made by Ken Clark, seconded by Kris Talley, to approve the WBWC by-laws, passing unanimously.

On membership, Bob Krzewinski reported that he sent membership letters to all county bicycle, outdoor and running shops, asking that Board members follow up with a person call or visit to their assigned business. On Committees, the need to fill positions of Membership, Communications and Education positions was reiterated. Bob Krzewinski also noted that as per the recently approved WBWC by-laws, Board member elections would be held in November and asked that though be given to potential candidates.

Regarding Communications, Bob Krzewinski would be sending Kris Talley a copy of the August WBWC meeting minutes as well as a copy of the WBWC by-laws for posting on the WBWC web page. It was also noted that the Ann Arbor News recently ran a WBWC submitted letter on Ann Arbor State/Liberty Street improvements. Jim Nieters also reported that real progress was being made in setting up a regular bicycling column in the Ann Arbor News.

On Action items, Ken Clark gave an overview of the Ann Arbor Capitol Improvements Plan, giving recommendations of the ten most promising projects that relate to bicycling and walking. Bob Krzewinski reported that he was still trying to set up a meeting with the Washtenaw County Sheriff and once a date was set, would convey this to the WBWC board and officers. No action was taken on issues regarding the Washtenaw County Road Commission bicycle project funding. Ken Clark reported that "Share The Road" signs would be discussed at an upcoming Ann Arbor Bicycle Committee meeting. Bob Krzewinski discussed the lack of sidewalks in a heavily used pedestrian area of Pittsfield Township (north side of Packard, just east of Carpenter) and would contact Township authorities over this issue.

With no other issues, the meeting adjourned at 8:26pm.
