Please join WBWC for our Annual Meeting on November 16th, 2022

You're invited to WBWC’s Annual Members’ Meeting! Non-members are encouraged to attend. On Wednesday, November 16th from 7-9 we’ll meet virtually to discuss ideas that can help Washtenaw to become more pedestrian and bike-friendly in 2023 and beyond. We will also vote for our newest board members, hear from our guest speaker, learn about great new bike rides in the area and innovative transportation projects planned for Washtenaw County.

Time: Wednesday, November 16, 7:00 to 9:00 pm

Location: Online via Zoom

This event is free of charge and open to anyone; participants need only register in advance (https://forms.gle/y7vTV7cUCTjyY4S3A). A link to join will be sent to registrants before the meeting. There will also be a raffle for prizes donated from local shops for members to enter!

This year’s Guest Speaker:

Norm Van Eeden Petersman

The Member Advocate at Strong Towns, is an energetic enthusiast for the work that Strong Towns members are doing around the world. He is the co-founder of Deltans for People-Oriented Places (Del-POP) and also co-founder of the Strong Towns Toastmasters group. He spent 10 years pastoring Christian churches in Canada and has worked in local and federal politics, tree-planting, construction, and farming. He builds pedestrian-oriented Lego villages with his son and helps his wife train their guide dog and two cats. You can connect with him on Twitter at @normvep or LinkedIn.

Talk Title: The Built Environment as an Enabler or Disabler of People

Norm will explain how so many North American cities find themselves struggling to deal with disconnected transportation networks and decline after decades of "growth". The problem lies in the current model of development - one which values short-term gains over long-term prosperity. To strengthen our cities and ensure their economic success, we must look to traditional ways of building cities. In this presentation, Norm will show how active citizens, local officials and design professionals can change the negative trajectory in their towns and help them to become more resilient and inclusive - no matter what challenges lie ahead.
